Flash floods have left over 100 people dead in northern and western Afghanistan, the government officials said Friday.
Dozens of others were missing and hundreds of homes were also damaged as flash floods swept through northern Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab and Badghis provinces.
Provincial police chief for northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan, Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani confirmed that 55 people died due to flash floods in Khwajah Do-Koh, Qosh Tepa, Darzab and a number of other districts.
This comes as provincial governor for Jawzjan province Bhai Murad earlier had said at least 46 people were killed following flash floods.
He said women and children were also among those killed, injured and missing.
Local officials in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan said at least 30 people lost their lives due to flash floods, and around 500 homes were damaged while several others were missing.
Provincial officials in northern Sar-e-Pul province said at least 14 people have been killed and several houses were damaged following the flash floods.
Meanwhile, officials in western Badghis province of Afghanistan said at least eight people have lost their due to flash floods in this province.
Mahsab Hamidi, provincial Natural Disasters Management Authority head for Badghis province confirmed that eight people died and nearly 200 shops were destroyed after flash floods swept through Qala-e-Naw city.
